Learn why local furniture makers are so important

It's time to change the narrative….

Did you ever notice when you tell someone you bought a piece of furniture they inevitably ask where you bought it from?

Why don’t we ask who made it?

When you tell them you bought a new car they ask what brand? What model? What color?  They don’t often ask what dealership you bought it from.

We have been programmed over the years to believe that the SELLER of the furniture we buy is more important than the MAKER.

We believe it’s time to change that. You should know who makes your furniture. The hands that make the work are what creates the connection between the raw material and the finished piece. We need to understand that things don’t magically appear, it takes work, and people to do that work. Understanding where your furniture comes from means you can be more connected to it, more appreciative of the people who made it, and have more respect for the time and effort it takes to bring it to life.

When you support makers like us here at Black Monarch, your purchase is fuel for an entire ecosystem of small businesses and families. We do our best to make sure we can pay our employees a fair wage for the work they do. We rely on local, family owned sawmills to supply our wood. We work with local companies for things like packaging, and logistics. Supporting us means supporting a local community of real people, not a faceless corporation racing to the bottom.

If the mission of Black Monarch is anything, it’s to get people to think about the things they bring into their home. We should think about the value of our things, not just the price. We should understand the costs associated with those things and not just the purchase price. We should think about the environmental costs, the waste costs, and most important the human costs. At the end of the day we are a furniture company that has decided to stand against the industry of mass production, low cost, low quality, and zero responsibility. We will always work to be the best at what we do, and do it for the customers who care the most.

Let’s start talking about the WHO and not the where.
